LKS writes "Forbes.com is reporting that Google will team up with NASA to work on IT solutions and data management. What else might come of this collaboration? From the article - "Google's engineers will be able to pick NASA's brains for ideas on supercomputing design, which could help the company in its efforts to create products such as 3-D maps. "We already have Google Earth. We'd like to have Google Mars and Google Moon," quipped Peter Norvig, director of search quality at Google. An updated press release can be found here."

All Points Blog links to a CNET article on a followup of NASA and Google alliance announced last year. From the article: "Norvig and Kemp said the problems in the relationship surrounded differences in culture--Google's young staff is on the fast track when it comes to product cycles versus NASA's largely older staff that takes a cautious, methodical approach to research and development. [...] Other problems, Norvig said, deal with intellectual property and legal concerns around joint projects. But ultimately the dot-com culture could teach NASA about adapting better when there's failure, he said."
Google Moon Updated 1 comment

The official Google Lat Long blog describe the updated Google Moon mashup. From the blog: "This update brings higher-resolution map imagery, text search, and photos and stories from every Apollo landing. We even included Street View-style panoramas of the moon's surface, taken by the Apollo astronauts ... something you won't see anywhere else. And last but certainly not least, we tossed in scientific charts that are good enough for actual mission planning and science classrooms alike."
