Very Spatial ended their geography awareness week coverage with an entry on applied geography. They also have a podcast wrap up of the GAW. From the applied geography entry: "[...] Applied Geography would be an ideal topic, since its focus is using geographic research in an area of specialty and applying it to solve real-world problems. Applied Geography, then, can be part of any of the many fields and subfields of geography, from GIS to development geography to hazards research."

Several geoblogs share their thoughts, ideas and links about this year's Geography Awareness Week (GAW). Interesting entries include the GEB entry on National Geographic support for the GAW. There's the official Google LatLong blog entry which provide more of less the same links. VerySpatial, in addition to their dedicated podcast, links to the Google Geography GAW 2007 page for educators. Some history of the GAW: "Geography Awareness Week was established in 1987, U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation that established the third week in November as Geography Awareness Week. Geography Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Geographic Society and other geographic organizations at the national, state, and local level. Themes of Geography Awareness Week: November 16-22 2008 - North America, November 11-17 2007 - Asia"
