The Google Earth Blog shares kml files for recent weather satellite animations in Google Earth. From the blog: "[The kml files] will load up the most recent few hours of infrared (IR) satellite photos as a time animation in Google Earth 4. This means you can watch animations of clouds moving during the past few hours on the 3D surface of GE."

Time-Enabled Norwegian Weather Forecasts in Google Earth
[+]
The Ogle Earth presents a nice application of the time-enabled Google Earth kml: Norwegian weather forecasts. From the blog: "It comes with cute-as-a-button icons, color-coded temperatures (which I really like — check northern Norway) and — the pièce de resistance — it's all time-enabled. Icons change from suns during the day to moons at night, you can click them for more local info, and if you turn on the preciptiation overlays, you'll see that cloud layers there match the icons. [...] As you've noticed, GEs time support still leaves a lot to be desired, but I think it works fairly well in this example."

Industry: Fox Television Offering Google Earth/Maps Weather Data
[+]
The Google Earth Blog tells us Fox TV is now providing weather information using Google Maps/Earth. From the blog: "The significant point here is that this is the first major TV network to support Google Maps and GE for weather reporting. CBS has been outputting geotagged RSS feeds of CBS news for GE, but it is very basic - just placemarks with nice descriptions and a link to each story. FOX's implementation is also relatively simple for weather reporting (no radar, satellite photos, or time slider animations), but its a good step nonetheless."
Industry: Layers Updated and New Weather Layers in Google Earth
[+]
The Google Earth blog details the rearrangement of Google Earth layers, including a new weather layer: "For example: Featured Content is now Gallery, Populated Places falls under Borders and Labels, the many layers describing stores, geographic features, sports venues etc. are now under Places of Interest. [...] The big new content layer is the new Weather layer. This is something I've wanted to see since the beginning. Right now, the new weather layer contains three sub layers: Clouds, Radar, and Conditions and Forecasts." See also related stories below. Update: 11/09 17:06 GMT by S : Here's the official Google LatLong blog entry on the new weather layer.
