The ESRI blog details GreenRide, a commercial GIS/webmapping application to help commuters find rideshare partners. From their entry: "GreenRide works by using GIS to analyze the geography of where people are and where they want to go and integrates data on work schedules and preferences to help users find partners. The result is an interactive map that displays match options so users can easily contact others. The online map is updated frequently, shows routing information that can be printed, and allows users to add points of interest." Out of curiosity, I contacted GreenRide to learn their Employer Edition is 4,900$ first year and 3,900$ other years, not cheap, but not expensive either if you have a lot of employees and don't have the expertise to build such a system. At my Centre (about 200 people), we simply built an OpenLayers-based map (using Google Maps data directly in OL) to inform people about their home location and make the connections between potential ride sharers. Is anyone aware of other applications for ridesharers?
