Slashdot discuss new methods to track people using bluetooth-enabled devices.
Their summary: "A Dutch guy seems to have set up a small network of bluetooth scanners. He has all the information logged to a central database and you can search it over the web. On his website it says "Some of these matches were only minutes apart. Therefore I could even calculate the approximate speed of someone moving from one location to another.". There are also some interesting statistics on his site showing traffic volume in his hometown (based on bluetooth signals) and he even lists popularity of certain Nokia phones. It's interesting to see how much information an individual can gather using old equipment."

Technology: Mobile GIS with Wireless Technology, Bluetooth and WiFi

GeoPlace offers a short article on mobile GIS going live with wireless technology. From the article: "The excitement over Bluetooth for online data access may be short-lived as Wi-Fi networks become more prevalent. Today, only a few mobile GIS devices are Wi-Fi capable, but more will be introduced soon. Just as Wi-Fi-enabled laptop computers can log directly onto the Internet at wireless hotspots in coffee shops and airports, so can mobile GIS devices access an enterprise GIS without assistance from a cell phone when in range of a network."
