The Google Earth Blog reports that the long awaited Disney World 3D layer for Google Earth has been released. Visit their page for more information, videos and try it yourself. I gave it a try myself yesterday evening, and the texture are extremely slow to come in. Perhaps you will have better luck than I did.

Singapore Grand Prix Track in 3D [+]
The Google Earth Blog has an entry about this. I tried the KMZ and it looks really good once loaded. Almost on par with the work Disney did. Here is part of the Google Earth Blog summary : "The Singapore Grand Prix Formula 1 race begins tomorrow. The race goes right through the Marina Bay Circuit Park. If you've never been there, you can still get a very realistic feel for what the race will be like thanks to Google Earth! As mentioned last summer, the guys at Earth@Sg created a detailed 3D visualization of the race track as well as the surrounding buildings for Google Earth. There are also ways to tour the track built in. You have two ways to view the model:"

Ancient Rome in 3D for Google Earth [+]
From the Google Earth Blog : "For the first time, Google has published a 3D model of an ancient city as a layer viewable in Google Earth. For decades archaeologists, students, scholars, and architects have studied the history and remains of Rome and worked to understand the city's history. The new layer, found under Gallery->Ancient Rome 3D, depicts Rome in the year 320 AD - at the peak of its development with over a million inhabitants. At this time it was the largest metropolis in the world."

Nice presentation. It's interesting to see some of the details they chose, such as a forest of trees which conceal more 3-D objects navigating within the forest. However, considering the viewpoint provided by Google Earth, they should also at least provide labels for some more areas. I think I recognized what is called "Main Street" but it's not labeled. Some nearby areas of the complex also need labels, such as what looks like a large support/maintenance cluster of buildings... Oh, wait, I'll look at it with the Wikipedia layer turned on and see what else has been labeled.
