Sorry for not publishing this on GIS Day (all day long meeting 200km away) but hopefully their offer is up to November 25th. Xenon writes "November 19, 2008 is GIS Day and this year more than ever the world of GIS is focused on environmental issues. You might expect a company named 3D Nature has always been on the forefront of environmental responsibility. Visual Nature Studio 3 has quickly become the tool of choice for visualizing wind farms (1, 2, 3) as well as environmentally responsible forestry, pipeline and powerline development and mine reclamation (1, 2). New parks are being designed world-wide using Visual Nature Studio 3. Whether open space or landscaped with facilities these environments come to life with VNS imagery and animations. 3D Nature is also very happy to announce that our new VNS 3 packaging was designed with the environment in mind. With new recyclable packaging and significantly less printed material included (all documentation is now in electronic format) Visual Nature Studio 3 has a significantly reduced environmental impact. So, all in all, 3D Nature's products are greener than ever! As a way to share the green, 3D Nature is offering a week-long VNS sale (through November 25th, 2008). Visit our GIS Day page to see the details." Related previous stories below.

3D Nature's Scene Express gets WorldWind Support 1 comment [+]
XenonofArcticus writes "3D Nature announced and demonstrated Scene Express support for exporting to NASA's WorldWind 3D Virtual Globe tool at the First Annual Virtual Globes Scientific Users Conference in Boulder, Colorado. Chris Hanson delivered a presentation showing how the same GIS-based landscape built in Visual Nature Studio could be authored to multiple realtime 3D Landscape tools, and compared and contrasted the abilities of each. Landscape tools demonstrated included VRML, 3D Nature's NatureView, Google Earth and now NASA WorldWind. WorldWind is a rapidly-evolving Open Source 3D Virtual Globe tool. WorldWind support is now part of Scene Express 2, an add-on for Visual Nature Studio for authoring realtime landscapes, and is available as a free update to current Scene Express 2 owners."

3D Nature Visualizes California Wildfires in 3D [+]
Xenon writes "Recently, 3D Nature created a three-minute 3D visualization of the destructive power of the California wildfires. Working on a tight budget and deadline under contract with the Institute for Business & Home Safety, 3D Nature recreated the affected areas in Visual Nature Studio, modeling terrain, roads, vegetation and houses. An informative voice-over explained the factors underlying the survival or destruction of various homes as the viewer witnessed firsthand the effects of the fire. "Wildfires are called wild for a reason, they can be uncontrollable," said IBHS President & CEO Julie Rochman. "Through the video we were able to help people understand that they can take back control by protecting their homes from these fires. We were able to illustrate that it doesn't have to cost a lot to make some very effective changes.""
Industry: New York City In Photo-Realistic 3D (GE) [+]
The Google Earth Blog brings us the following news : "Google has updated the 3D buildings in Google Earth for New York City! This is a HUGE update with at least hundreds (if not thousands) of new 3D buildings with photo textures applied. Basically, Google has completed nearly every building in Manhattan Island for Google Earth. Just fly to "New York City" and turn on the 3D Buildings layer in Google Earth. Tilt your view so you can see the buildings in all their glory. This is the largest city i've seen done with photo-realistic textures to date."
