Very Spatial introduces the Green Map System collaborative project. From the GMS website: GMS is a locally adaptable, globally shared framework for environmental mapmaking. It invites design teams of all ages and backgrounds to illuminate the connections between natural and human environments by mapping their local urban or rural community.

The Green Maps folks have been hard at work for 10 years now, so it's not exactly news, but definitely very cool. Last year i volunteered with them to help organize their map projects with a global coordinate, so that they can be mapped on a globe. See http://greenatlas.org/ [greenatlas.org] for an example, where i set them up with a Dymaxion map on which to display locations.
The Green Maps folks aren't yet too geo-savvy so it would be great for more geo-people to get involved and help!
