belg4mit writes "The International Networks Archive at Princeton has some very interesting map presentations including "The Coming Water Wars", and "The Magic Bean Shop/The Fries that Bind Us"; use of the same scale for both of the latter maps would have been nice, also note that KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell are all a part of Pepsi Co. for total sales equalling one half of McDonald's. The related Mapping Globalization project is also interesting, covering historic trade and migration as well."

Very Spatial discuss an open source software to generate cartograms named ScapeToad.
From the official page: "ScapeToad is a cross-platform, open-source application written in Java, designed as an independent application using the ESRI Shapefile format for input and output.
ScapeToad also exports maps in SVG format.
ScapeToad has a user-friendly interface, which guides the user throughout the map creation process."

Understanding the World Powers with organigrams
(Score:2)( http://alexandreleroux.blogspot.com/ | Last Journal: Friday March 17, @04:07PM )
A few years ago I stumbled onto this website offering numerous organigrams, showing links in governing by networks, information war, religious affiliations [utangente.free.fr], and a tentative of the world government [utangente.free.fr]. Mostly in english and in french, those organigrams are far from perfect and probably not 100% accurate, but still succeed in growing our awareness to the spheres of social power influences on our planet.
